Barack Obama To Set Up Leadership School In Honour Of Father At UoN

Former US President Barrack Obama has pledged to set up a leadership school at his father’s alma mater, the University of Nairobi, next year.

This was announced by President William Ruto who was speaking at the launch of a strategic plan of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association on Thursday, June 13.

He delved into the inception of the institution, stating that he made an appointment to meet with the former president during his state visit where he made the request.

Ruto shared details of the meeting where he sought his support to set up a similar model of the Kennedy Leadership School at Harvard University here in Kenya.

He further stated that due to Obama’s father’s connection to the University of Nairobi, it would be an honour to name the school after him.

The Head of State added that Obama was in agreement and that he would mobilize support to facilitate the establishment of the leadership school.

“When I was in America, I asked for an appointment with President Barrack Obama and I asked him for one thing. I am an alumnus of UoN and I told him that his father was also an alumnus of UoN.

“I requested him to assist us set up a school in the fashion of Kennedy Leadership School in Havard. I asked him that we call it the Barrack Obama Leadership School. He agreed and will come here next year,” Ruto announced.

“He has undertaken that he will mobilize support for a sustainable school of leadership, because leadership is serious and we want you guys to be better than us,” he added.

Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education offers leadership programs designed to equip leaders with skills and knowledge to address current challenges faced by the world and organizations through effective problem-solving.
