Hypemaster DNG, otherwise known as Davidson Ngibuini has offered to waive the mortuary fees of slain Finance Bill protester Rex Kanyike Masai who was shot dead on the night of Thursday, June 20.

Rex was killed by police officers who opened fire to disperse protesters lingering in Nairobi CBD in the night.

The news about his death was made public by activist Boniface Mwangi after an alert was issued about a body lying in the CBD.

Boniface tracked down Rex’s parents and shared the news of his passing accompanied by photos of his parents standing his body in the mortuary.

“I’m sharing pictures of 24-year-old Rex Kanyike lying in the morgue with consent from his parents, Crispin Odawa and Gillian Munyao, who are standing over his body at City Mortuary. He was killed by the police this evening.

They’re shocked and numb from the loss of their son,” Boniface shared after they arrived at City Mortuary.

Members of the public offered to help give the fallen protester a befitting sendoff including leaders who opined that it was unfortunate that lives had to be lost in the peaceful demonstrations.

DNG who is also Woodly MCA offered to cater to morgue fees as soon as Rex’s case had been finalized.

“Good morning. Poleni sana. If you have not already found a morgue, please bring Rex to the Nairobi Funeral Home.

He will be well taken care of, and we will waive the bill. Kindly let me know. No one deserves to die in the exercise of their democratic right to protest,” he mourned the young man.

Rex’s death triggered outrage online, with people condemning police officers for resorting to the use of firearms on unarmed protesters.

“This is cruel and inhumane. The barbaric Kenya Police have murdered Rex Kanyike Masai, but he rests a hero and leaves a legacy of courage.

We demand #Justice4RexKanyike. His death must not be in vain. Freedom Fighters: prepare for the Mother of All Battles!” lawyer Miguna Miguna stated.

“We will print posters with Rex’s face and name around Nairobi terming him as a hero. We will cover the burial expenses as well, my heart is absolutely broken maaan but it was not in vain,” activist Hanifa Farsafi added.
