The day of protests has taken an unfortunate turn after a section of demonstrators charged towards parliament trying to gain access to the buildings.

In the melee on Tuesday, June 25, police opened fire towards the protesters fatally injuring those on the frontline, while the rest managed to gain access to the parliament through the Senate by breaking the gate.

The law enforcers engaged in running battles with the protesters, who wreaked havoc in the building, breaking anything they could on sight.

The afternoon chaos saw the torching of a section of the senate and a police lorry.

Three protesters are feared dead according to Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei, while four others who were critically injured were picked up by ambulances and rushed to hospital.

MPs who were in the house during the passing of amendments remained marooned as police struggled to vacate them.

They were evacuated through the underground tunnel of parliament with majority of them still hidden in the basement.
