Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lashed out at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) for monitoring his private calls.
In an interview with Kikuyu media houses, the DP claimed that the DCI and NIS have been recording his private phone calls. READ FULL STORY
Gachagua likened the situation to what happened during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure when intelligence institutions were used to settle political scores.
The DP also mentioned that people who are close with him or those who interact with him are monitored and asked what they were discussing.
“I want to tell the DCI and Noordin Haji to be very careful because what is happening now is similar to what happened in the previous government; using intelligence agencies for politics and to intimidate others
“Right now anyone who calls me has their calls recorded and anyone who comes close to me is asked what they were coming for yet I’m the deputy president,” he said during the interview.
Additionally, Gachagua said President William Ruto will take responsibility in the event ODM leader Raila Odinga’s entry into the government will cause problems.
The DP said they will not question Raila or apportion blame to him as he did not invite himself into the government.
“I want to say this, even if Raila comes and becomes a menace to us, we cannot question him because he did not bring himself to the government
“In the event anything bad happens from Raila coming into government and the people of Mt Kenya are not happy, we will question President William Ruto because he is the one who has brought Raila in,” he said.
Gachagua added that Ruto explained to him the reason behind his decision to work with Raila saying that it was not aimed at wreaking havoc in government.
He said Ruto explained to him that the former Prime Minister was brought in so that the Executive and the Opposition could work together.
“I will believe that because I have not seen any signs that things are going wrong,” he said.
Gachagua acknowledged that Raila has been supporting his ‘one man one shilling one vote’ mantra, adding that it makes him an ally and a good man.
“Any man who supports this mantra is not my enemy and an enemy of the people of Mt Kenya because that is someone who wants the best for us,” he said.
