Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has responded to a recent talk about an impeachment action filed against him.
Speaking to vernacular radio stations, The DP absolved President William Ruto of any culpability, stressing that the Head of State is not participating in the impeachment process. READ FULL STORY
He further noted that the motion was introduced because of his efforts to galvanize the recruitment of Mt Kenya leaders into government.
“I have not seen the impeachment motion but I have heard rumours that it is being pursued because of my efforts to secure government positions for our people and address issues faced by avocado farmers,” he said.
Gachagua also stressed the importance of the nation prioritising immediate issues over political maneuvers in order to promote individual interests.
“As a country, we have numerous challenges. Impeachment is not among them. But if the members of parliament decide to impeach me in the midst of all these economic crises, I will have no objections,” he said.
Gachagua also addressed the regional political dynamics, acknowledging the discontent of some leaders in his area.
He mentioned that the dissatisfaction came about after he was appointed Deputy President following a tense negotiation.
“I understand that some leaders in our region may still struggle with the fact that I was elected Deputy President instead of them
“While I recognise their concerns, I hope we can move past these grievances and work together to advance Kenya, focusing on the country’s development rather than internal disputes,” he said.
Elsewhere, as earlier reported on EAFeed, Gachagua lashed out at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) for monitoring his private calls.
Speaking during the same interview, the DP claimed that the DCI and NIS have been recording his private phone calls.
Gachagua likened the situation to what happened during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure when intelligence institutions were used to settle political scores.
The DP also mentioned that people who are close with him or those who interact with him are monitored and asked what they were discussing.
“I want to tell the DCI and Noordin Haji to be very careful because what is happening now is similar to what happened in the previous government; using intelligence agencies for politics and to intimidate others
“Right now anyone who calls me has their calls recorded and anyone who comes close to me is asked what they were coming for yet I’m the deputy president,” he said during the interview.
