Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reignited his feud with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, now accusing him of incompetence.
Gachagua, in an interview with Mt Kenya media sources, accused Sakaja of abandoning the city in favor of his 2027 re-election quest. READ FULL STORY
The DP also accused the Nairobi Governor of fighting with leaders allied to him instead of directing his energy to service delivery.
“Sakaja was voted in overwhelmingly by our (Mt Kenya) people. We had a lot of hope in him but he has failed. Nairobi is not only untidy but in bad shape
“During the tenure of Nairobi Metropolitan Service, everything was working well. Today, Sakaja’s main focus is to fight leaders allied to me,” he said.
While at it, Gachagua commended Nairobi leaders who have been working, wondering why Sakaja could not do the same.
“We have leaders like Embakasi North MP James Mwangi Gakuya, Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru who have been vocal about the problems Nairobi is facing
“We have seen a new trend now where someone has been intimidating and threatening them because they are calling for a better Nairobi,” he added.
According to Gachagua, Nairobi has major waste and congestion issues that Sakaja has failed to handle.
This is not the first time Gachagua has voiced concerns with Sakaja.
Some two months ago, Sakaja slammed Sakaja, accusing him of disrespecting political leaders.
Sakaja likened Gachagua’s situation to his own, after he was roundly criticised for his leadership style and reform proposals for the city.
“I’ve gone through a lot and I’m not easily intimidated. No one has the right to say I was given this seat. I was elected,” he said.
The words were aimed at Gachagua who last year said Mt Kenya leaders have a stake in the running of the city county’s affairs, since their votes handed the seat to the governor.
“You cannot bully people for two years then start crying after being mentioned for just one week. If you want respect, respect other leaders. If you don’t respect those leaders then respect the people who put them there,” he added.
Sakaja claimed he had been bullied, going back to 2022 when his proposal to relocate matatus and hawkers from the CBD was widely opposed by Mt Kenya leaders, led by Gachagua.
He termed them bullies.
“Bullies are the biggest cowards,” Sakaja said.
