Political activist Kasmuel McOure recently defended himself following a meeting with South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.
He stated that he used the opportunity to express his views directly to Osoro about issues he frequently advocates for online. READ FULL STORY
“I go to that members’ club often and meet plenty of Kenyans there. The Majority Whip of Parliament is one of the many members
“It was my first time meeting him, and I took the opportunity to say to his face what I’ve always said online: Their government has failed us in fundamental ways. Extrajudicial killings, false promises on service delivery, and a blatant disregard for the rule of law,” he said.
Kasmuel emphasized that he will always seize chances to speak truth to power, regardless of the backlash.
“My online critics have often tried to relegate me to protests alone. However, you can not only dismiss me to die in the streets, as if my leadership was destined to end there. If I get the chance to speak truth to power, I’ll do it every time
“The influence I have is held in escrow, representing the underprivileged youth we engage with in communities across the country. It stands for the families of those who marched with me but never returned. I wish you’d also shine as great a light on those moments and help us drive that conversation forward,” he added.
The meeting came after Osoro faced criticism for demanding respect for President Ruto, which many Kenyans perceived as hypocritical given the government’s actions.
Activists and citizens, including Kasmuel, argued that respect should be mutual between leaders and the public, particularly in light of issues like corruption and police brutality.
McOure’s engagement with Osoro was viewed by some as controversial, but he maintained that addressing leaders directly is essential for accountability and dialogue on pressing social issues.
Elsewhere, Kasmuel has reprimanded Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba regarding her comments about his meeting with National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro.
Wamuchomba posted a photograph of McOure and Osoro on her X social media platform, suggesting that certain influences can be passed on.
This reaction did not sit well with Kasmuel who clapped back at the Githunguri MP.
“My Son Kasamueri (Kasmuel) some spirits are transferable lol,” the MP wrote on social media platform X.
In reply, Kasmuel stated that Wamuchomba was elected under the banner of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
He further inquired whether the party’s principles were not transferable, urging the Githunguri MP to conduct herself in accordance with her leadership role.
Kasmuel remarked that had she taken the appropriate actions, he would not find himself protesting in the streets.
“You were elected under Ruto’s party. Weren’t spirits transferable then? You want me to die on the streets when I can tell you the truth when I meet you in person? If you did the right thing, I wouldn’t need to be on the streets. You’re the elected leader here. Act like one!” He said.
