Kenyan Woman Breaks 80-Year Tradition Becoming First Female Chair Of International Christian Organization

Kenyan entrepreneur Nthenya Macharia has been named the first female board chair of the international Christian organization Youth For Christ.

She becomes the first woman to hold the position in 80 years.

She took over from former chairperson Howard Stevenson after an election on May 3, 2024, during a Youth for Christ International Board meeting.

“We are thrilled to announce that Nthenya Macharia has been elected as the new Board Chair of Youth for Christ International. Notably, Nthenya is the first female to hold this position in our 80-year history,” the organisation’s International Director Dave Brereton said in the announcement.

“We are confident that Youth for Christ International will continue to thrive under Nthenya Macharia‚Äôs leadership of the board and make a profound impact on the lives of young people around the world. Please join us in congratulating Nthenya on her historic new role and supporting her in this exciting journey,” he noted.

Nthenya is a force in the public image consultancy industry in Kenya, with over 20 years of experience in personal and business coaching. As a firm believer in Oscar Wilde, she empowers her clients to leave last legacies by building great first impressions.

She is also a wife and mother of two boys.

She joined Youth For Christ in her teens and has been an active member ever since. Nthenya joined the organization’s board in 2016 and became the vice chair in 2018, a position she earned through her commitment and vision.

The Youth For Christ Organization was founded in 1940 in the United States of America and is a worldwide Christian movement working with young people, whose main purpose is evangelism among teenagers.
