Despite looking tired, those present with him at lunch confirmed that he seemed fine, which made the sudden illness a surprise.
“The Deputy President just looked tired. In fact, he had lunch in his office with some senators from his region and they said he was okay. Everyone was expecting him in the Senate, even his lawyers,” Maanzo told Citizen TV.
During the lunch break, Gachagua reportedly fell ill and was rushed to the hospital.
His lead lawyer, Paul Muite, informed the Senate that the Deputy President’s condition required immediate medical attention. According to Muite, his client suffers from severe pain chest.
Muite requested an adjournment to assess whether Gachagua could continue with the trial next week on Tuesday.
The Senate proceedings had been suspended until later in the evening to allow direction from Speaker Kingi.
