Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary GeneralCleophas Malala, has reported that his son and brother-in-law were kidnapped at gunpoint on Monday, September 23, 2024, by unidentified individuals.

Malala stated that the kidnappers compelled the victims to guide them to his residence in Kitengela.
Ultimately, the two were abandoned along Thika Road after the abductors were unable to locate Malala and his spouse.
“My Son and my 19-year-old brother-in-law were abducted at gunpoint. They were tortured for six hours to disclose my whereabouts or that of my wife and to show them the way to my residence in Kitengela
“After failing to find me or my spouse at home they dumped the two along Thika Road. I have picked them up safe but traumatised and shaken,” he wrote on X.
Malala who has been in conflict with the ruling party following his abrupt removal from office did not disclose the reasons for the potential threats posed by gunmen towards him and his family.
His political difficulties have been further exacerbated by the purported scheme to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a move he has strongly opposed, labeling it a diversion from the critical challenges confronting the country.
“The tussles going on right now between the MPs and the DP were the same fights that were before the President (William Ruto) chose Gachagua as his running mate. That fight has just re-emerged now in public
“This political situation can be summarised as trying to divert attention, there are more important issues that should be addressed at the moment than to concentrate on Rigathi’s meeting with his natives,” Malala said.
Notably, Malala was ousted as UDA Secretary General amid internal party conflicts and allegations of disloyalty.
The UDA’s National Executive Committee revoked his appointment, citing a lack of support for President William Ruto’s agenda and accusations that he was not fulfilling his duties effectively.
Tensions escalated as rival factions within the party clashed, with some members claiming Malala was working against the party’s interests.
Despite a court order halting the NEC meeting, the decision to remove him was executed, leading to further confusion within the party.
