However, speaking in Nairobi on Monday, Raila admitted to knowing about ODM members’ appointment to Ruto’s administration.
ODM members who were nominated to the Cabinet include former governors Ali Hassan Johoand Wycliffe Oparanya as well as MPs John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi.
The former prime minister stated the president approached him for assistance with issues presented by Gen-Z in anti-government protests.
Raila said Ruto sought help after his Cabinet failed to deliver on its mandate to Kenyans.
According to Raila, the CS nominees from ODM are a much-needed boost to Ruto’s troubled ship and will assist the administration in turning things around.
“Now you see, the guys were struggling with the work; he disbanded the Cabinet and came to us asking to give them people
“They came and knelt down, saying we should give them people. We have given him experts, you will now see things changing,” Raila said.
On Sunday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said Ruto will take responsibility in the event Raila’s entry into the government will cause problems.
Gachagua said they will not question Raila or apportion blame to him as he did not invite himself into the government.
“I want to say this, even if Raila comes and becomes a menace to us, we cannot question him because he did not bring himself to the government
“In the event anything bad happens from Raila coming into government and the people of Mt Kenya are not happy, we will question President William Ruto because he is the one who has brought Raila in,” he said.
Gachagua however said Ruto explained to him the reason behind his decision to work with Raila saying that it was not aimed at wreaking havoc in government.
The DP said Ruto explained to him that the former Prime Minister was brought in so that the Executive and the Opposition could work together.
“I will believe that because I have not seen any signs that things are going wrong,” he added.
Gachagua acknowledged that Raila has been supporting his ‘one man one shilling one vote’ mantra, adding that it makes him an ally and a good man.
“Any man who supports this mantra is not my enemy and an enemy of the people of Mt Kenya because that is someone who wants the best for us,” he said.
