On Friday, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja responded to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allegations regarding the forced relocation of traders from Wakulima Market, commonly referred to as Marikiti.

He asserted that it is his fundamental duty as the county leader to safeguard the traders and foster a conducive environment for their business activities.
“I have a duty and mandate that will not let me fall for populist political gimmicks at the expense of the lives and safety of Nairobians,” he said.
Sakaja accused Gachagua with engaging in tribal politics, asserting that such actions were harmful to the nation as they could exacerbate divisions.
Additionally, he criticized the Deputy President for provoking city traders against the Nairobi County Government by using vernacular language during a rally in the center of the capital.
“You have chosen to use falsehoods to incite traders against the measures we are taking. There will be order in this major artery into the city. The people of Nairobi and the leadership of the market support this move fully,” he added.
