Leading the charge against Gachagua is a formidable legal team headed by Siaya Governor James Orengo, a seasoned lawyer with extensive experience in constitutional law and a history of serving in the Senate.
Orengo will be supported by a diverse team of 14 lawyers, including notable legal figures such as Paul Nyamodi, Eric Gumbo, Moses Kipkemoi, Muthomi Thiankolu, Peter Wanyama, Kenny Kipkoech, Joan Cheruto, Erick Mwingi, Bonface Mawira, Kevine Otieno, Alex Mboya, Kennedy Kyalo and John Mwangi.
On the other side, Gachagua has assembled an equally impressive legal team led by senior counsel Paul Muite.
His team includes respected lawyers Elisha Ongoya, Tom Macharia, Victor Swanya, Ndegwa Njiru, John Njomo, Faith Waigwa, Amos Kisilu, George Wandati, George Sakimpa, Andrew Muge, Eric Naibei, Julia Omwamba and Willis Echesa, all of whom are expected to mount a vigorous defense.
The Deputy President is facing 11 serious charges, including abuse of office, disrespecting the Office of the President, and economic crimes.
As both legal teams prepare for a high-stakes showdown, Gachagua’s lawyers are anticipated to line up key witnesses in a last-ditch effort to dismantle the allegations against him.
With the Senate poised to hear the impeachment motion, all eyes will be on this elite legal battle that could determine the fate of Kenya’s second in command. The outcome of the trial will not only affect Gachagua but also carry significant implications for the political landscape in Kenya.
