Osoro mentioned an airport constructed in Rwanda and another in Ethiopia which will have 70% stake for some years.
“Rwanda has built an airport that is 2nd to none thru PPP. Kwanza yao ni 90;10. Sidara from Dubai is building a $6 billion airport in Ethiopia and will have over 70% stake for some years. Mtu analeta doo zake awekelee kwetu, unateta. Sio eti anabeba airport! I think tumerogwa,” he wrote on X.
The Adani deal concerning JKIA involves a 30-year concession agreement between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd and the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
The agreement allows Adani to manage and upgrade JKIA, with an investment commitment of approximately KSh 238 billion aimed at modernizing the airport’s infrastructure and services.
Key aspects of the deal include the financial terms, where Adani will pay a concession fee starting at Ksh 6 billion annually, increasing by 10% every five years.
The airport will also generate revenue for Adani, who expects an 18% return on investment.
Initially, KAA will assist Adani in managing the airport for the first two years, after which Adani will take full control.
The deal has faced significant opposition, including legal challenges from the Kenya Human Rights Commission and the Law Society of Kenya, citing concerns over transparency and the potential fiscal risks to taxpayers.
A recent court ruling has temporarily halted the implementation of the deal pending further legal review.
The deal has sparked public debate regarding its transparency and the long-term implications for Kenya’s aviation sector and economy.
