Recent media reports highlighted the purported abduction of David Machiri Kimani from his residence in Thogoto, Kiambu County, on August 12, 2024.
Subsequently, it was reported that armed individuals, suspected to be police officers, forcefully entered the home of his father, Joseph Kimani Machiri, a former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Murang’a. READ FULL STORY
Surveillance footage documented the moment the armed personnel cut the power supply to the house before gaining entry and escorting the elder Machiri away.
It has since come to light that these events are connected to an ongoing investigation into a substantial fraud case involving a local bank, where David serves as a manager.
He is regarded as a key suspect in a theft amounting to approximately Ksh 1.5 billion through illicit transfers from the bank.
The manager emerged as a key figure in a scheme involving the unauthorized withdrawal of funds from the payroll account.
The funds were subsequently transferred to various accounts in different banks.
Authorities assert that David’s credentials were exploited to facilitate the transactions that took place in July during his leave of absence.
David was initially apprehended in July following the report of the heist to the Banking Fraud Unit, but he was later released by the court.
On August 12, he was re-arrested in connection with the incident that has now garnered significant media attention.
The timing of the abductions, occurring shortly after the court granted bail, raises questions regarding the underlying motives of these events.
