Mercy Wasike is a nurse who made history after becoming the first Kenyan to be appointed the Deputy Chief Nurse at Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in London.

But how did Wasike go from pursuing a career in education to becoming a top nurse in the United Kingdom? Here is her story as told by EAFeed.
Following the completion of her secondary school education, Wasike joined Kenyatta University where she pursued a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education.
She spent five years at the institution and graduated in 1997.
Not long after, Wasike relocated to the United Kingdom in search of better opportunities.
“My family have an abiding belief in my ability and have been consistent with their support to me,” she stated.
Following his arrival in the UK, she registered for a Diploma in Adult Nursing at the University of Brighton Institute of Nursing and Midwifery.
By 2003, Wasike had completed the course and was registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) IN 2003.
This development gave her a chance to practice nursing, and worked in various hospitals across the UK before she pursued an MA in Clinical Education.
Wasike completed the program in 2011 and in 2013, she helped lay out and implement initial strategic frameworks while working as the Learning Disability Coordinator at Barts Health NHS Trust.
Additionally, she worked as the Practice Experience Facilitation Manager for the North East London Foundation Trust.
At this point, Wasike had accomplished several goals including mentorship and improving students’ learning environment.
She went on to serve as an Assistant Director of Nursing, Central and North West London, responsible for community health, mental health, addictions, health and justice and sexual health.
Prior to the current appointment, Wasike worked as a senior nurse at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital emergency department.
