The team from Raila Odinga’s ODM Party include two former governors, Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, as well as two MPs, Opiyo Wandayi and John Mbadi.
In this article, EAFeed seeks to explore the academic qualifications of the four new entrants to President Ruto’s administration.
Hassan Joho
Joho sat the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) at Tom Mboya Primary School in 1988.
According to a court document in a case over the legitimacy of his bachelor’s degree, he schooled at home for one year before joining Serani Secondary School in 1990.
Joho enrolled for a pre-university course at Kampala University that allowed him to take a certificate course after attaining a mean grade of D- (minus) in the KCSE of 1993.
In 2008, he pursued and obtained a certificate course in business administration, paving the way for him to enroll for a diploma course in human resource management in the same university in 2009.
Additionally, in 2018, Joho graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce – Second Class honours, Lower Division from Gretsa University.
Opiyo Wandayi
Wandayi, born and raised in Siaya County, attended Sikalame Primary School for his primary school education and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1986.
He later joined Sawagongo Secondary School where he attained his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) four years later.
Wandayi would later join the University of Nairobi where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in agriculture, and later joined the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) for a Diploma course in Business Management in 2008.
In 2010 he enrolled at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) as an MBA executive. He is currently pursuing an LLB at Daystar University.
Wycliffe Oparanya
Oparanya who was born and raised in Butere, Bungoma County attended Mabole Primary School for his primary school education.
The former governor proceeded to join Butere Boys High school for his O-levels and later joined Kisii High School for his A-levels.
Oparanya the joined the University of Nairobi in 1977 for his Undergraduate degree which he attained three years later in 1980.
He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Masters in Business Administration (Finance) both from the University of Nairobi.
Oparanya is a continuing Ph.D student in Economics at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
John Mbadi
Mbadi attended Lingongo Primary School and later joined Kokuro Boys Secondary School for his secondary school education.
After completing his secondary education, he joined the University of Nairobi in 1992 and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2004.
In 2007, Mbadi obtained a Master of Business Administration.
Career-wise, Mbadi was Finance Director at Medair East Africa- South Sudan Programme between 2004-2008 and a senior accountant at the University of Nairobi from 1999-2003.
He also served as an accountant at the University of Nairobi Enterprise Services (UNES) from 2000-2002 and an assistant accountant at the University of Nairobi from 1996-1999.
