Akelo Misori Education 

Maurice Akelo is a passionate learner and disseminator of knowledge. He grew up in a family of like-minded people, most of whom took the teaching path for their careers. 

He is an alumnus of Siriba Teachers College which is now known as Maseno University where he pursued a diploma in Education. On completion, he went on to enroll for his undergraduate degree at Kenyatta University. He joined the institution in 1998 as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Religious Studies student until his graduation in 2002.

Akelo Misori Career Journey 

Having been born in a family where most individuals took the Education path, Akelo Misori followed suit as he also grew a passion for it. 

Misori became a teacher at Migori Boys High School, a venture he greatly enjoyed. It exposed him to the actual work and challenges teachers across the country faced. Over his twenty-one years of teaching, he got to understand the ins and outs of education in Kenya, which coupled with his background in Education made him consider a leadership role in the sector.

This led to him joining the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers and became its national chair in 2006. He was on to championing the rights of teachers and the integrity of the education system. For instance, he was actively against the ranking of schools arguing that all were differently equipped and thus has had no common grounds for comparison. 

He also stands for children’s rights speaking against sexual abuse, child labor, and domestic violence.

The Secretary General keeps his private life away from the public light. He has only spoken of his family when talking about their paths in Education as well noting that two of his sisters and father were already practicing teachers.
