Chris Obura Education Background
Dr. Obura is an alumnus of Alliance High School in Kikuyu, one of the best and oldest national schools in the country. After high school, he joined Makerere University and a year after graduating joined the University of London’s Guys Medical and Dental School. This was not the end of his academic journey as he was awarded a postgraduate Commonwealth scholarship at the Eastman Post.
Later on, in 1971, he received a study grant from the French government in Paris-based La Patie Hospital.

After his rich education journey overseas, he returned, being appointed the Ministry of Health’s Chief Dental Officer; a role he held for six years beginning in 1965. He has also been a University of Nairobi honorary senior lecturer, Aga Khan Platinum Jubilee Hospital consultant, and consultant oral and dental surgeon at the Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi’s Forces Memorial Hospital. This would all culminate in propelling him to lead the East African Dental Association for four years. Dr. Chris Obura also ran his private dental practice between 1968 and 1995.

He sits on numerous boards as either chair or member. The retired dentist is the chairman of Express Kenya PLC board (a Freight and Logistics company), The Nairobi Hospital board, and Olympia Capital Holdings Limited board (a Construction Supplies & Fixtures company). He is also a board director at Olympia Capital Corporation Limited, Kenya Insurance Company, ICEA Lion General Insurance, Howse & McGeorge Ltd, Dunlop Industries, Karen Enterprises, and Mather & Platt Kenya.

Dr. Obura is an expert golf player who has led the Kenya National Golf Team and the Kenya Golf Union between 1977 and 1983.
