The Kenyan comedy fraternity continues to mourn the late Fred Omondi, brother to comedian Erick Omondi, who passed on Saturday, June 15 after a tragic road accident.

The late Churchill Show comedian was supposed to be honoured in a series of events before his burial on Saturday, June 29, but following the ongoing incidents happening in the country, the family has announced major changes in the arrangements.

The memorial service for the fallen comedian was scheduled for Thursday, June 27, at the CITAM Church on Valley Road but was abruptly cancelled because of the ongoing protests in Nairobi.

The family then shared information on the subsequent events before his body would be transported to his final resting place in Kisumu.

“Fred Omondi’s memorial mass has been cancelled because of protests. There will be a body viewing session at the Chiromo Mortuary from 7:30 AM and a service at the nearby chapel. The body will then be taken to the airport and flown to Kisumu International Airport,” one of the family members told a local media house.

This service disrupted by the Anti-Finance Bill protests was intended to offer a chance for family, friends, and supporters to pay their respects and remember the late comedian whose talent and humour left an impact on their lives.

Fred’s body will be airlifted to Kisumu on Friday, June 28, courtesy of the KUPA organisation, before travelling by road to their family home in Sega, Siaya County.

The burial service and ceremony are set to take place on Saturday, June 29, starting at 10:00 AM.

Fred passed on on the early morning of Saturday, June 15, when a bodaboda Fred was riding on collided with a speeding bus, killing him instantly.

On Friday, June 21, the comedy industry’s biggest names hosted a comedy show dubbed ‘The Last Laugh’ in his honour at the Simba Saloon in Carnivore Restaurant.
