“It’s basically a weight loss aid injection that you get weekly. It reduces your appetite and keeps you feeling full for longer by delaying stomach emptying. It has the same effect as bariatric surgery but without the surgery, lol,” the podcaster explained.
According to medical journals and websites, the Semaglutide injection is used to treat type 2 diabetes and, when combined with diet and exercise, helps control blood sugar levels.
It also reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in patients with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which mimic the GLP-1 hormone released in response to eating, tricking the brain to suppress appetite and signal fullness.
“The journey so far has been amazing, even life-changing. I’ve lost 18 kgs this year, with 12 kgs shed since I started on Semaglutide,” Murugi shared.
The procedure she noted has some side effects affecting her digestive system the most.
“Managing nausea was challenging initially, especially in the first month, but my body has adjusted,” she stated.
Murugi said she still has a long way to go, aiming to lose another 25 kilograms over the 18 she has shed, bringing her goal weight to the 70s. She shared that she began her journey at 120 kilograms.
Curious fans inquired how much it cost her to have the procedure done locally, to which she shared that she consulted Body by Design Ke who offered the most affordable option of over Kshs 100,000.
The cosmetic procedure facility advertises the procedure on its Instagram page, stating it costs Ksh160,000 for a weekly Semaglutide weight-loss injection, which can help lose up to 2-4 kgs per week.
In 2022, Murugi revealed that she had a liposuction procedure that cost roughly Kshs 600,000. The procedure which focuses on fat removal saw her lose 8.7 litres around her belly and back areas.
