Kiunjuri is 51 years old as of the year 2020. Kiunjuri Festus Mwangi was born on 29th April, 1969 in the Kahurura Forest section of the Mount Kenya region in Kieni, Nyeri county. He hails from the Kikuyu community of Kenya.

He spent a good chunk of his life in Kieni, Nyeri county. His father worked as a dresser at a local dispensary whereas his mother was a peasant farmer. Being the 11th child in a family of 12, life was so hard since the meager income could not comfortably fend for the entire family.
He once admitted that he first wore his first pair of shoe while he was in class 4. While in Campus, he used to sell clothes and vegetables when he was not attending his classes. This helped him fund his education and has steered his way to the successful person he is today.

In 1997, Mwangi Kiunjuri was elected to the parliament so as to represent the Democratic Party. He ended up retaining the seat till 2007. He has also been able to work as the Assistant Minister of Water and Irrigation and the Assistant Minister for Energy.
Kiunjuri belonged to the Party of National Unity (PNU). He was elected to represent the Laikipia East Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election till 2013.

Mwangi Kiunjuri Career
Kiunjuri has known politics for a good part of his life. In 2015, he replaced Anne Waiguru as the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning. Waiguru had resigned on corruption grounds. On October 26th 2017, he was appointed the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and was dismissed from this position on 14th January, 2020, being replaced by Peter Munya.
Mwangi Kiunjuri Sacked from the Ministry
His laying off from the position of CS for Agriculture came to him as a shock. The sacking came after Uhuru’s secret four-hour meeting at Raila’s home. Kiunjuri claims that he is a target for Uhuru’s selective witch-hunt.
The sacking came in shortly after he realized that he was short- changed by President Uhuru since he had even agreed to fold up his Grand National Union (GNU) party and support Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election. He, however, stated that he would continue to support Uhuru.
