Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has fired a warning shot at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over President William Ruto’s partnership with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
In an update on X, formerly Twitter, Mutahi warned Gachagua over his popularity in the Mt Kenya region as Ruto continues to woo Luos and Luhyas. READ FULL STORY
He asked Gachagua to work restrategize if he is yet to be accepted by the Mt Kenya region as at now.
Mutahi also questioned former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s silence, noting that he might start working with Ruto and Raila soon.
“Dear Riggy. If Gema has not accepted you by NOW, you are wasting your time. Simple. Ruto is romancing Luos and Luhyas. And they love him. In other news, Uhuru is silent. Maybe he will meet Ruto and Raila in Dubai after China. point: If you are not on the table, you are on the menu,” he wrote on X.
Recently, Gachagua made a dramatic U-turn in his stance towards Raila.
Gachagua, who was previously one of Raila’s harshest critics, is now fully supporting his candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson position.
During the launch event at State House, Gachagua emphasized that he never had personal issues with Raila, despite their political differences in the past.
He acknowledged that they were competing for the same position between him and President Ruto.
Gachagua praised Raila as “Kenya’s finest statesman” and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver as AUC chairperson given his qualifications and passion for pan-Africanism.
He assured Raila of the support from President Ruto, himself, and all Kenyans across the political divide.
The Deputy President’s endorsement comes as a surprise, given his previous stance against Raila working with the Kenya Kwanza government.
However, Gachagua now believes that Raila’s candidacy presents a unique opportunity for Kenya to have a representative at the helm of the African Union Commission.
