The journey of Isaiah and Mama Jimmy commenced with a modest yet meaningful wedding ceremony.
Mama Jimmy reflects on how their nuptials were grounded in faith and Christian principles, eschewing extravagance.
She reminisces about the occasion when Isaiah and his parents visited her home to present the dowry, which comprised both cattle and a substantial amount of money.
“Alikuja kwetu akafika na wazazi wake. Walileta mahari, ngombe na bahasha mzuri. Ndoa yetu haikuwa harusi kubwa, ilikuwa ya kikristo kwa maombi,” she said.
Baba Jimmy mentioned that their wedding occurred during an overnight prayer gathering, referred to as ‘kesha’ in Kenya.
The event featured prayers and a modest cake made by Isaiah’s mother.
Unfortunately, Isaiah became unwell during the ceremony and had to depart from his wife at the prayer service, leaving her feeling bewildered and uncertain.
“We got married at a kesha, had prayers, and enjoyed cake. But that night, I felt sick – I don’t know if it was illness or just nervousness. I left the kesha to rest at home, leaving Mama Jimmy behind,” Isaiah said.
Mama Jimmy expressed that she felt bewildered after her husband departed from the prayer service prematurely.
Upon returning home, she was engulfed by fear and uncertainty, which prevented her from joining her husband in bed.
Consequently, she chose to spend the night on the couch, enveloped in a Maasai shawl.
“I came back from the kesha and found myself in a dilemma, not knowing what to do or where to go. I had been to that house before, to clean it, but now I felt afraid. So, I took my Maasai shawl and slept on the couch,” she said.
As time passed, Mama Jimmy developed the ability to conquer her fears.
She came to understand that fear serves as an obstacle that hinders individuals from reaching their maximum potential.
Her engagement in the media sector has contributed to her confidence and enabled her to release her worries.
“Lakini siku hizi mimi nilijifunza kwamba uoga ni dhambi inazuia vitu mingi kwa maisha yako…. Kwanza mambo ya media ndio imefanya nikaacha kuwa muoga,” she said.
