Mama Ngina became Kenya’s pioneer First Lady when she got married to Mzee Jomo in 1951 taking the office in 1963 when Kenya became an independent nation. She accompanied the country’s president on several occasions around the country.
However, in the 1970s Mama Ngina was believed to have been involved in some illegal activities, smuggling ivory, along with some other individuals. These allegations were never ascertained and only declared that a member of the royal family (Kenyatta family) had been in the ring smuggling ivory in tons to China.

She has three co-wives upon marrying Kenya’s first president as his fourth wife. The first three wives were the Wahu Kenyatta who bore two children, Clarke Edna who bore one child, and the late Wanjiku Grace who bore one child.
Ngina Kenyatta is a Christian by religion and is a practicing Roman Catholic. Her brother, Muhoho George, is also a Roman Catholic member and has grown to become a chaplain.
