He attended the Kenya School of Government before enrolling for his Anthropology undergraduate degree in the University of Nairobi. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has also been a learner at the Mother of Apostles Seminary. George Natembeya proceeded to attain his Master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Nairobi in the year 1999.
George Natembeya Career Journey
Natembeya worked in the public service sector for more than twenty-five years before his resignation seeking an elective post. He started off as a Personal Assistant to the late John Michuki who served as Minister for Security. Depicted from his working stature, Natembeya borrowed much from the late Minister saying, “Everything I know, I learned from John Michuki,” speaking to the People Daily publication.
He held the position for four years before his promotion to District Officer position followed by Murang’a District Commissioner. His work in Murang’a was majorly in controlling the Mungiki gang that had been a terrorizing menace for the residents in the area. Taking the place of Kenneth Lusaka, Senate speaker, Natembeya was successful in suppressing the gang.

He was then appointed as Isiolo County Commissioner in 2016 before his transfer to Narok. There, he was yet again tasked with a heavy responsibility – to protect the Mau water towers. This was a high tension duty that saw him evict more than 10000 settlers amid great friction.
From June 2019, he served as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner until his resignation on 12th January 2022. He became the first high-ranking government official to table his resignation before the president in line with the Elections Act that additionally capped 9th February as the deadline for those in public service seeking elective posts.
He has been vying for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat and luckily, he secured it. Commenting on his move, George Natembeya told NTV, “When doing work away from home, people see how you’ve done. So when people call you back home, you have no option but to heed to their call.”
