Joseph Kubende famous as Kubende wa Wekhomba is a political mobilizer from Bungoma county who passed away on Thursday, March 23rd after allegedly falling from a fourth-floor apartment in Roysambu.
Early Life
Joseph Kubende was born in March 1981, to teacher Priscah in a family of ten. He belonged to the omusawa Bukusu circumcision age set (sisingilo). He is from Kimilili constituency in Bahai near Matili. READ FULL STORY
Kubende’s education path is somewhat unclear. Some reports state that he went to Lugari Boys Secondary in Western and did his KCSE. He was a gifted motivational speaker , a natural musician, a soloist, unmatched mobilizer and a friend to many people of all walks of life. However, he talked about being suspended more than twenty times.
Career
Joseph Kubende described himself as a professional English teacher who taught African Literature at the Kigali Institute of Education in Rwanda. He was also an author, playwright, and drama teacher.
Also, he was a former employee of the county government of Bungoma under Lusaka’s administration. He also served as a personal assistant in the office of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
Politics
In the 2017 general elections, Joseph Kubende worked alongside the Late Grace Namulei Wasike in setting the stage for Wycliff Wafula Wangamati’s ascent to power as Bungoma county’s second governor.
Death
Joseph was confirmed dead on Thursday, March 23, at the age of 42 years. This was after falling from the fourth floor of GM Apartments in Roysambu, Nairobi. According to the Star, Police, and other witnesses said that Kubende was alone during the time of the fall.
Reports also state that he landed on his head, becoming unconscious. He was rushed to Jesse Kay Hospital on Lumumba Drive before he was transferred to Radiant Hospital in Pangani where he succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save him by the doctors.
