Being academically bright, he emerged to be the top student in 1989 at Maranda High School with a KCSE Mean grade of A (plain). Some of his teachers by then (those currently still alive) always attests that he was a good student, well-behaved and who always followed instructions.
As one of the most achieved Maranda Alumni, he occasionally visits the school to talk to boys and motivates them too. He later joined the University of Nairobi to pursue Bachelor of Laws (LLB) where he obtained his first Degree in 1995.

Amollo has been one of the reputed Kenyan Advocates of the High Court for a long time (Notary Public, a Commissioner for Oaths and a Certified Public Secretary). He is currently the Member of National Assembly, Rarieda Constituency.

Otiende was married to Lilian Amollo years back on exchange of vows in a broad daylight. The two brought forth six children namely Rodney, Miriam, Paula and the triplets namely: Jewel, Jean and John.

He loves playing football. Currently he plays soccer with Railway Wanderers F.C, the club that was established back in the year 1922. Amollo also loves drama; he discovered his passion while he was still back at Maranda. In fact, he was, capped the best actor in the National Drama Festival.
Moreover, he loves fishing. He even attends fishing expeditions in Lake Victoria and spends his better part of leisure visiting various orphanages which were established by his late father, John Amollo Samba.
