Nancy graduated in 1987 with a degree in Bachelor of Education Arts (B.Ed. Arts) in English/Literature. From Kenyatta University. She then pursued a master of Education Policy and Management at Bristol University, UK in the year 2002.

In her career journey, Nancy was employed as a teacher at Kahuhia Girls’ Secondary in Murang’a County. Years later, she was promoted to be the deputy principal of Kiandeni Girls’ Secondary in the same region.

Nancy then quit teaching for another job as a staffing officer in the Teachers’ Service Commission. Nancy Macharia later became director teacher management, reporting directly to the Teachers Service Commission Chief Executive Officer. She was tasked with management of four senior deputies.
