According to the latest release of top universities ranking in Africa by Webometrics, the top University in Uganda came at position 1080 in the world. Below in the list of the 10 best Universities in Uganda in their order of merit:

1. Makerere University

The University was founded in 1922. It is not only one of the oldest but also most prestigious University in Uganda and the entire Africa. The main aim of the University is to provide innovative teaching, learning, research and services responsive to National and global needs.

2. Uganda Christian University

The UCU College was established in 1997 by the Anglican Church of Uganda. Since then, it has expanded its’ programs ranging from Theology, Education, Social work, Business, Law, mass communication, Development studies, Information technology, Library and Information Science and nursing.

In addition, it has modular courses in Education, Organizational leadership, Maternal health and Health administration. The University attracts students all over East African countries and expatriates from North America, Europe and Australia.

3. Mbarara University of Science and Technology

MUST was founded in October 1989 as a public University and was accredited by the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda. Long enough, the College has won both national and International recognition as the best practice in outreach and community relations from Association of Common wealth Universities, European Union, Civil Society of Uganda.

The College is esteemed for producing the best development workers and health care professionals.

4. Uganda Martyrs University

UMU is Catholic based University founded in 1993. it received a Civil Charter in April 2005 from the Government of Uganda as a legitimacy for its operation. Since then, the University has been popular amongst the higher learning institutions in Uganda. Additional to that, the University is esteemed for quality Education.

5. International Health Science University (IHSU)

IHSU was established in 2008.It is a private College located in the city of Kampala. The campus was accredited by the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda. Amongst the programs offered by the University include; Pre-bachelors Degrees, Bachelors degrees and Masters Degrees in Several areas.

In addition, the University provides both academic and non-academic facilities and services to students and which include library, sport facilities, study abroad and exchange programs, online courses and Distance learning opportunities.

6. Kyambogo University

The University is relatively new in Uganda. It was established by the Universities and other Tertiary Institution Act 2001 in 2003. The College has gradually progressed to be one of the best Universities in Uganda. Kyambogo was established with the aim of promoting and advancing knowledge and development of skills in science, Technology and Education in regards for quality, equity, progress and transformation of the society.

7. Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU)

UTAMU is a private higher Education institution located in Kampala. It was founded in 2013 and officially accredited and recognized by the National for Higher Education in Uganda.

The University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. In addition, the institution offers several academic and non-academic facilities and services for students, library and administrative services inclusive.

8. Ndejje University

Ndejje was established in 1992 as a profitable and private venture. It is located in the rural settings of Ndejje Central region. The institution which has several branches was accredited and recognized by the National Council for Higher Education.

The 26-year-old institution offer courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degree such as pre-bachelor degrees, bachelor degrees, master degrees and several areas of study.

9. Kampala International University (KIU)

KIU is a private University in Uganda which has built a name in Uganda ‘s Education sector with incredible pliability. It is chartered by the Government of Uganda as a recognition and acknowledgement of its’ ability and competence to offer relevant education.

KIU was founded in 2001 and has 2 campuses, the main campus in Kampala and School of Health Sciences in Bushenyi along Kasese road with branches in Tanzania and Kenya. The main objective of KIU is to respond to societal needs by designing and delivery of an education guided by the principles and values of respect for society, economy and environment and to provide and develop a supportive research environment in which scholars at every stage of their career can flourish.

10. Gulu University

The University ranks number 10 as one of the best University in Uganda. It was established in 2002 as non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban of Gulu. It offers courses and programs leading to official recognition in Bachelor degrees in several areas of study. In addition, it provides both academic and no-academic facilities including library and administrative services.

In conclusion, Uganda still remains the country with the best Universities globally with best marketable courses that one needs to pursue.
